about

.....................

The only thing we know about Philippe Laurent is that at the end of the 70s, this disciple of Kraftwerk (in France, he is Ralf, Florian, Wolfgang and Karl all by himself!) Begins to compose timeless electronic music pieces. Timeless is not too strong since it will have taken at least 30 years before you can really listen to them. Before that, these tracks released on small underground labels, mostly on limited-edition K7s, had probably reached few discerning ears ...

In 2011, the compilation event “Hot-Bip” was released on the American label Minimal Wave, which brought back to the fore all the more or less forgotten artists of the 80s and the era of the self-produced K7. It will be followed by “Cassettes” in 2015 on the Parisian pioneering label Serendip.
In 2016, “Inactual Considerations” a split with Airworld, a tribute to Richard Pinhas, was released on the Schwerkraft Records label.

It was during these years when he produced many new songs, remixes or collaborations (Airworld, Richard Pinhas, Maurice Dantec, Toshinori Kondo, Lost in Stars ...) that Philippe Laurent developed more ambient music, always electronic but perhaps less pop and that’s how he will create this brand new album, “Nocturnes”, like a post-modern Chopin, made up of 9 instrumental tracks that we could qualify as retro-futuristic.
We can still detect its particular touch made up of bouncy beeps and heady melodies evoking a bygone era, located somewhere between the 70s and a future that we do not yet know but that we feel has already happened, like a sweet and disturbing dream at the same time. A wonder of the modern world.
